Anyone who relies solely on newspapers and magazines is missing out on millions of potential contacts

Whether it’s at the baker’s in the morning, on the train or over a first cup of coffee at the kitchen table: for many people, having a look at the daily newspaper or a magazine is still a natural part of everyday life. The latest findings from the agma Media Analysis 2026 impressively demonstrate that these media continue to achieve strong reach figures and reach highly relevant target groups for advertisers.

agma Media-Analyse 2026: Wer Zeitungen und Zeitschriften abschreibt, verpasst Millionen Kontakte

An integral part of everyday media life

Anyone who believes that newspapers and magazines have lost their significance will be surprised by the latest figures. Daily newspapers reach 30.46 million people every day, representing 43.5 per cent of the population aged 14 and over. Magazines perform even better: per publication cycle, 44.49 million people read at least one title, which corresponds to a reach of 63.5 per cent. The latest analysis thus makes it clear that both media still occupy a firm place in people’s everyday lives.

High-quality platforms with attractive target audiences

But it is not just their reach that speaks in favour of daily newspapers. They also impress with the quality of their readership. Almost one in two university graduates reads a newspaper every day. Overall, daily newspapers achieve a reach of 48.8 per cent among people with a university degree. This offers advertisers the opportunity to target a target audience with high purchasing power, a high level of education and who are often key decision-makers, within a credible and trustworthy environment.

Where interests meet purchasing power

Magazines are present where many everyday decisions are made. More than half of regular readers are in the midst of their working lives and are concerned with topics such as housing, health, transport, finance or leisure. Magazines thus reach a target group that is particularly relevant to numerous sectors.

Added to this is the enormous variety of titles. This enables advertisers to target people specifically based on their interests and needs, and to place their messages in an environment that fits perfectly with readers’ daily routines. In this way, magazines combine reach with relevance and generate attention where it is particularly effective.

Strong reach, strong impact

The results underline once again that newspapers and magazines continue to play an important role in the media mix, even in the digital age. They generate reach, credibility and attention in contexts where advertising messages are consciously noticed. It is particularly when combined with digital channels that they realise their full potential and help to reach target audiences throughout the entire customer journey.
