(Digital) Out-of-Home activated – with immediate effect
The latest MAX Study 2026 by WallDecaux demonstrates just how effective outdoor advertising is today. 65 per cent of consumers have already actively responded to outdoor advertising, for example by searching for further information whilst out and about.
This highlights just how closely perception and action are now linked. (Digital) Out-of-Home advertising not only sparks interest, but leads directly to the next interaction. 47 per cent use their mobile devices to find out about products or offers whilst on the move.
Often, only seconds lie between exposure and a response. A brief moment in a public space is enough to spark interest and guide consumers straight to digital touchpoints.
When the physical meets the digital
A key driver of this development is the shift in media usage behaviour. The smartphone is a constant companion in everyday life. 60 per cent of people do not leave the house without their smartphone, and 96 per cent use mobile data whilst out and about at least occasionally.
Social media also reinforces this effect. Content from outdoor advertising is not only noticed, but also reflected upon, shared and discussed. In this way, a brief encounter in a public space gives rise to an interaction that continues in the digital realm.
At the same time, connected communication also enables the reverse process: digital signals can be used to display messages contextually within the (digital) out-of-home environment, thereby specifically amplifying their impact.
From impulse to conversion
This dynamic is also evident in purchasing behaviour. 88 per cent of consumers make mobile purchases whilst on the move at least occasionally, often triggered by an impulse in public spaces.
An eye-catching interaction can be enough to immediately turn interest into a purchase. The paths are becoming shorter, decisions faster. Consumers move seamlessly from analogue inspiration to digital action.
Particularly strong among young target groups
A look at the different age groups shows that outdoor advertising is particularly effective amongst younger consumers. Gen Z and Gen Y, in particular, respond more strongly than average to stimuli in public spaces and are especially likely to turn these into concrete actions. For example, up to 74 per cent of Gen Z use their mobile phones to find out more about an offer immediately after coming into contact with (digital) out-of-home advertising, and at the same time use this stimulus as a direct entry point into digital brand interaction.
The future lies in synergy
The results clearly show that (digital) out-of-home advertising is now far more than just a traditional reach channel. It creates stimuli in everyday life, immediately engages consumers and leads them directly to digital touchpoints.
Its full potential is realised through synergy with other channels. This is precisely where MEDIA CENTRAL comes in: by strategically integrating outdoor advertising with digital measures, campaigns are created that effectively reach consumers throughout the entire customer journey.
