Mönchengladbach/Viersen, 9 September 2025 - As part of the first funding round of the MEDIA CENTRAL Hearts Project, the children's residential group of the Evangelische Jugend- und Familienhilfe Viersen received a grant of 5,000 euros. The donation was used to purchase six new bicycles, which will be available to the children in future. The project was supported by Georgs Fahrradladen from Mönchengladbach, which not only provided the bikes at a special price, but also contributed helmets and equipment. The official handover took place at the end of August directly at the residential group in Viersen.
"For many of our children, this is their first bike, and some are only just learning to ride a bike. The joy is correspondingly great," explains Line Totten. "For the children, this means more independence, shared leisure activities and a bit of normality. We are very grateful for this support."
Children's residential group with a clear mission
Evangelische Jugend- und Familienhilfe provides a home for children and young people who can no longer live with their family of origin. Eight children aged between 7 and 15 currently live in the residential group in Viersen. Here they find a protected environment in which young people experience stability, support and a reliable community.
Structured support, impact
"The realisation of this first project has given us great pleasure," says Ingo Wienand, CEO at MEDIA CENTRAL. "Our intention with the Hearts Project is not just to help selectively or through small donations in kind, but to make a targeted and lasting impact. It is important to us to give all applicants the same opportunity and to highlight projects that create real added value for society."
The MEDIA CENTRAL Hearts Project awards 5,000 euros twice a year to charitable initiatives from Mönchengladbach and the surrounding area. Organisations with the right to donate are eligible to participate - a local connection is not mandatory, but is particularly welcome. Applications are made via a creative contribution. The format is freely selectable, for example in the form of a video, an audio recording, a presentation, an interview or a collage of images.
The selection takes place in two stages: an internal jury first nominates the finalists, then MEDIA CENTRAL employees decide on the winner. In the first round, over 100 employees took part in the vote - a clear sign of the high level of identification with the project.
Next round starts in October
The next application phase runs from 13 October to 17 November 2025. Further information can be found at: www.media-central.com/herzensprojekt
